Carbon dioxide network

Project information

“CCS Baltic Consortium” is the first project in the Baltic States aimed at capturing carbon dioxide (CO₂) generated during cement production. The project seeks to develop a CO₂ capture and transport value chain in Lithuania and Latvia that would enable CO₂ to be transported to ports and subsequently to permanent offshore storage sites. One of the first steps is to conduct a feasibility study, which will include selecting the most efficient method of CO₂ transport. One possible method of transporting captured CO₂ is through pipelines, in the development and operation of which the EPSO-G Group sees a potential role for itself. The capture of fossil and biogenic CO₂ is important for developing a climate-neutral economy and achieving the EU’s zero-pollution targets in the transport, electricity generation and other sectors, both in Europe and Lithuania, by 2050. The “CCS Baltic Consortium” project has been recognised as an EU Project of Common Interest (PCI). The network could become operational after 2030.
