Approach to sustainability

The EPSO-G group aims to implement the transformation of the energy sector by ensuring a sustainable balance between environmental, social, and economic goals. The group integrates sustainability principles into the activities and processes of all group companies. The strategic sustainability priorities and goals set in the strategy are linked to the expectations of stakeholders, ensuring a sustainable future by creating an independent and secure energy system for society and the planet. The group’s strategy also directly contributes to strengthening sustainability across the country and region.

By 2029, with the integration of the country’s electricity systems with continental European networks and accelerating the development of renewable energy sources, it is planned to significantly electrify the industry, transport, and energy sectors. By 2035, it is planned to create an advanced electricity grid and hydrogen infrastructure that will allow Lithuania to take a significant step towards decarbonization. For those whose activities pose particular challenges to achieving this goal, CO2 transportation services will be offered.

As a strategically important energy infrastructure manager, EPSO-G contributes to the implementation of commitments related to climate change and environmental protection outlined in the Paris Agreement, the European Green Deal, the National Energy Independence Strategy, and the National Climate Change Management Agenda.

Key decarbonisation levers in the Group companies in 2025–2030

CompanyGHG ScopeDecarbonisation measures

All Group companies

Scopes 1 and 2

  •  Use of energy generated from renewable energy sources (RES) for own needs;
  • Use of low-emission transport – acquisition of electric and hybrid vehicles.

„Amber Grid“

Scope 1

  • Reconstruction of gas compressor stations;
  • Replacement of gas boilers with electric boilers at gas distribution stations;
  • Integration of biomethane into gas equipment systems;
  • Use of specialised equipment (Stopple) for repairs of main gas pipelines (the measure with the greatest Scope 1 GHG emissions reduction effect).

„Litgrid“

Scopes 1 and 2

  • Elimination of SF₆ gas when reconstructing transformer substations (10 units are planned to be replaced by 2030);
  • Purchase of electricity generated from RES through direct contracts (Power Purchase Agreements, PPAs) and Guarantees of Origin (GOs) to cover technological losses (the measure with the greatest Scope 2 GHG emissions reduction effect);
  • Installation of solar power plants on transformer substations and switchyards.
